Why Can’t Our Politicians Read?

You often hear the lament, “Why Can’t Our Children Read?” I want to know, “Why Can’t Our Politicians Read?” Have you ever watched them at a TV press conference they’ve called? Staff comes striding out first, then The Important Ones, then the Minions who stand behind while the Politicians attempt to read from a piece of paper—which I have to believe they have never seen before.

Stop Being a Mealy-Mouth

In the last few years I’ve become acutely aware of the fact  we’re becoming a nation of mealy-mouths, in our homes, in our schools, and in our government. We have come to endorse a culture of  oral indefinites. We toss around words like “unacceptable” and “inappropriate”, and phrases such as “mistakes were made” so we can feel good about being tolerant. We accept the morally unacceptable as “not illegal.” We scold bullies in school for their “unacceptable” and “inappropriate” actions while forcing the victim to endure these actions which have no or little consequence for the perpetrator.
